Giving a Vintage Kitchen Canister New Life

"At first glance, this vintage kitchen canister didn’t look especially promising. I spotted it at the thrift store, tucked among tools and miscellaneous items.

At some point, it had been repurposed to store nails—and in true Goodwill fashion, it had been thoroughly taped to within an inch of its remaining sad life. Functional, yes. Charming? Not so much.

And in true empath fashion, I felt sorry for it, so I brought it home."  Comment from Little Vintage Cottage

Articles like this one makes me happy.  As time goes on, I fear that vintage items are just tossed out.  It especially makes me sad since items from my childhood that I wish I had now were tossed out like trash.  I guess this ideology has made me a hoarder!

How to Sew a Scrap Felt Heart

Photo source: Sum of Their Stories

"How to make a felt heart with scraps of fabric and lace. Turn them into little felt heart brooches or key rings." Comment from Sum of Their Stories

Great way to recycle your fabric scraps!  Love this article with all the variation of heart photos and different uses.  These patterns can also be used for those crafters who make junk journals, slow stitching projects . . . the possibilities are endless.  Thanks to Julie for these awesome ideas!

Blue Jean Planter

Photo source:  Birdz of a Feather

This is the best version of this type of a jeans planter I have seen.  Most of us won't be able to duplicate their process (because of not having the equipment), but perhaps we could use our creativity to come up with another process.  This project can generate endless inspiration for many different projects.

This project is genius from Birdz of a Feather . . . check out the video to see how they created it and go to their website for more creative projects that will inspire you.

Thank you Birdz of a Feather for the inspiration!

Refashioned Flip Flops

Being the classic hoarder that I am, there are a few boxes of old shoes that I have not had the heart to throw away.

After seeing this post from Flamingo Toes, one of my favorite creative blogs, I have all kinds of ideas going through my head on what to do with these shoes . . . with some broken vintage jewelry, or how cool would they be made of denim!

It goes to show you, sometimes being a hoarder is not such a bad thing!

Click here to go to Bev's article that goes into great detail on how she refashioned a plain pair of flip flops.

DIY Tshirt Quilt

What a great way to preserve memories.

Since my husband passed away, I have been going through his clothes and had already put tshirts aside that I wanted to do something with.  This is perfect and actually what I had in mind.  I have found that when you lose someone close, you want to have little things that bring special memories.

Also,  I have saved old concert tshirts from back in the day that would be awesome to have a quilt of concert memories.

Jeans Resurrection: A Small Clutch Bag

What a cute little clutch!  Click here for the basic pattern and then let your imagination run wild with the embellishments.

Since I sell vintage jewelry and have an overabundance at my fingertips, I love using bits and pieces of old jewelry that I can't sell to embellish these DIY sewing projects.  I'll be posting some new projects as soon as I get back into my sewing room.

Use what YOU have an abundance of for the embellishments . . . if you are a fabric hoarder, another favorite for me are fabric appliques.  No need to go out and buy more stuff to make this little clutch a special little treasure!

The pattern and inspiration comes from Alida, whose blog is on hiatus, but has lots of great ideas, patterns and inspiration.  Her personal story is touching . . . check out her blog, Alida Makes.

DIY Woven Jeans Coaster

I love this idea, not only for this project, but as a way to make your own fabric for other projects (such as purses).

This project uses jeans seams that you probably have left over in your scrap stash from other denim jeans projects.  How cool is this concept?

These gorgeous earrings were found on Cut Out And Keep, a website full of craft tutorials.  The tutorial was submitted by Gisele R.  Love the design of these earrings!
